ESG

Our Commitment to Sustainability and Responsibility

At swisspor, sustainability is becoming a central part of how we work and make decisions. From the way we use energy and materials to how we treat people, we understand that responsible action is essential for our company, our customers, and future generations.

We are at the beginning of a broader transition toward group-wide sustainability. Different sites and teams are at different stages, but what unites us is a shared awareness that we need to act, and a commitment to move forward, step by step.

Through our completed double materiality assessment, combined with our existing Code of Conduct and internal dialogue across different teams, we have defined a set of core principles to guide our group's sustainability efforts. These principles help us to focus on what matters most, align with international standards, and create a shared direction across the organization.

Given the diversity of our product portfolio and the wide range of markets we serve, applying sustainability consistently across the group is both a complex task and a key priority. The materiality assessment has helped us to identify the most relevant topics at group level while also recognizing the distinct challenges faced by individual subsidiaries.

Our current focus is on building the systems that will support this work over time. This includes developing shared practices for data collection, strengthening cross-functional collaboration, and laying the groundwork for measurable goals. We approach sustainability as a continuous journey rather than a fixed destination, and the steps we make now will help us build a stronger, more responsible swisspor for the future and our future generations.

Environment

We are committed to reducing our environmental impact and using natural resources responsibly. As a manufacturer in the construction sector, we understand that our products and processes play an important role in how buildings affect the climate and the environment throughout their lifecycle.

Our environmental efforts are focused on what matters most, based on our materiality assessment and industry relevance. These are the principles that guide us:

  • We contribute to reducing the operational emissions of buildings through energy-efficient products, while also working to lower emissions from our own production and transport activities.

  • Energy efficiency is part of who we are, from how we produce to how our products perform. We aim to reduce energy consumption and explore opportunities for renewable energy use where feasible.

  • We are committed to using raw materials more efficiently, increasing recycled content, and supporting circular design principles.

  • We acknowledge that industrial activities can affect biodiversity. We work to manage the environmental impact of raw material sourcing, particularly in quarries, with care and in compliance with legal requirements.

  • We align with environmental standards and frameworks, and are building data foundations to track, compare, and improve over time. Our operations are subject to strict local and EU regulations regarding emissions into the air, water usage, and pollution control.

  • Where available, we use life cycle assessments and independent environmental product declarations (EPDs) in accordance with EN 15804 and ISO 14025 standards. While not yet available for all locations or products, we are expanding this approach over time.

These focus areas help us to shape a long-term environmental approach that is realistic, measurable, and relevant not just for today, but for the years ahead.

Social

People are at the center of everything we do. Whether in production, logistics, administration, or leadership, we want our workplaces to be safe, respectful, and supportive across all sites and companies in the swisspor Group.

Our social responsibility is grounded in clear values and a commitment to fair, inclusive, and healthy working conditions. We focus on the following principles:

  • We are committed to protecting the physical and mental well-being of our employees. This includes investing in safety systems, training, risk prevention, and compliance with national health and safety regulations.

  • We respect labor rights, working time regulations, and the right to fair pay. We support open dialogue between employees and management and promote a culture of responsibility and trust.

  • We do not tolerate discrimination of any kind. We value diversity and inclusion, and we aim to ensure equal opportunities for all, regardless of gender, background, or personal characteristics.

  • We foster a working environment where everyone is treated with dignity and can contribute to a positive team culture. This includes taking social responsibility seriously and acting according to shared values.

  • We believe in long-term engagement. We support training, apprenticeships, and personal development so that employees can grow in their roles and careers.

  • While stakeholder dialogue exists in various forms today, we plan to strengthen our engagement with local communities, customers, and partners to better understand expectations and improve how we address social and environmental topics.

Our goal is not only to be a responsible employer, but to create workplaces where people can thrive, and where strong teams build the future of swisspor together.

Governance

Responsible governance is the foundation of how we work. At swisspor, we are committed to acting with integrity, complying with laws and standards, and making decisions that reflect our values across all areas of our business.

As a privately owned Group with clear structures and values, we ensure that ethical conduct, transparency, and accountability are part of both our daily operations and our long-term strategy. Our governance approach is shaped by the following principles:

  • Our Code of Conduct defines clear rules on ethical business practices, including fair competition, anti-corruption, transparency, and responsible use of company resources. Equally important, it helps to ensure compliance with the wide range of legal and regulatory requirements that apply in the various countries where we operate.

  • We communicate openly and ensure our decisions are documented and traceable. This applies to internal processes as well as to how we engage with external stakeholders.

  • We support the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and the core conventions of the International Labour Organization (ILO). This includes fair treatment, safe working conditions, and zero tolerance for discrimination or forced labor. We expect the same from our suppliers and business partners and conduct checks as part of our responsibility.

  • At present, supply chain management is handled locally within each entity. One of our next priorities is to align standards across the group and introduce shared supplier principles and group-level policies.

  • Our whistleblower system enables employees and third parties to report misconduct confidentially. We take every concern seriously and use it as a chance to improve.

Products & Innovation

Our products are built for today’s buildings and tomorrow’s expectations. Whether insulation boards, bitumen membranes, clay and concrete roof tiles, or other components, we aim to deliver solutions that are efficient, durable, and designed with long-term value in mind.

Sustainability is not a separate feature. It is something we strive to integrate into the core of product development. That means thinking about how materials are sourced, how products perform over time, and what happens to them at the end of their life.

Our approach is guided by the following principles:

  • Our products help reduce the energy demand of buildings, supporting climate goals, regulatory compliance, and long-term cost savings for users.

  • We develop materials that are built to last, even under demanding conditions. Longevity plays a key role in reducing environmental impact over the product lifecycle.

  • We work to increase recycled content, improve recyclability, and reduce dependency on fossil-based raw materials. Wherever possible, we aim to close material loops and reduce waste.

  • Our development teams work across disciplines and in close exchange with research institutes, suppliers, and customers. This helps us to stay at the forefront of material innovation and building science.

  • We use life cycle thinking, environmental assessments, and customer feedback to refine and improve our product systems over time, balancing function, sustainability, and design.

Through responsible product design and innovation, we aim to help shape a more energy-conscious and resource-efficient built environment.

Our sustainability efforts are coordinated by a dedicated core team at the group level, including the Corporate Sustainability Manager and the ESG Compliance Advisor. This team works in close cooperation with the CEO, CFO, and Strategy Manager to steer our ESG agenda.

This work is just beginning and will expand over time. To shape our roadmap, the core team is gradually building collaboration with cross-functional teams across the swisspor Group. These include, among others, colleagues from production, logistics, HR, innovation, purchasing, IT, marketing, and finance.

Sustainability is a shared responsibility, and our progress depends on open dialogue and teamwork across all functions. Together, we are building the systems, policies, and knowledge base that will guide our group’s sustainability journey in the years to come and for our future generations.
